John Sung
Head Women's Lacrosse Coach/Associate Athletic Director
Coach Sung was hired as the head women's lacrosse coach and assistant athletic director in August of 2021. Starting his career as an assistant coach with the women's lacrosse programs at the University of Michigan and Birmingham Seaholm before becoming head coach at Adrian College for four seasons where he compiled a 47-19 record. Sung spent 2011 to 2016 at Winthrop University where, as Head Coach, he owned a 54-26 record and claimed a pair of conference championships. As recent Head Coach of the Virginia Tech Women’s Lacrosse program, he became the winningest coach in program history with 45 victories and led the Hokies to a top-20 spot in the national polls each of his five seasons. In 2018, Head Coach John Sung finished a program-best, third in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Sung coached four all-Americans, five Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) all-region selections, 10 all-conference honorees, and two training members of Team USA, all while earning academic honor roll honors from the IWLCA from 2017 to 2021.
Rebecca Congel
Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach
As a two-sport athlete at Syracuse University, Congel was a field hockey player and lacrosse player.
Coach Congel spent two seasons as the head coach of the Summit Lacrosse club team before joining the program at Carthage College. Before joining Summit Lacrosse, she was an assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo, where she successfully ran the program's freshman team to a 5-6-1 record from a 0-12 record in 2017.
